Lame and Lamer
He joined the Navy and reported to Boot camp February of 1999. He thought basic training was easier than ranch work as he told his father once. He continued to once tell him that he had joined to be a SEAL and to have a challenge. Boot camp simply just prepares you to sit on a ship. He wanted something more challenging such as the Marine Corps basic training which is a physical challenge for the most part. BUD/S is extremely demanding physically and mentally, the dropout rate is 90 percent. The most strenuous part of BUD/S is Hell Week, 132 hours of straight of exercise and physical activity. Unfortunately, Chris wasn't able to go straight into BUD/S he had to go through other training first. Such as, MOS training, which simply means Military Occupation Specialty. HE had to choose one just in case he couldn't pass BUD/S. He ended up choosing intelligence, simply because he thought he would be another James Bond.
Hell Week
The night before Hell Week the instructors treated them to a nice movie and some popcorn, they all knew what was to come though. The screaming, yelling, cussing, torture. They started with vigorous exercise. The instructors were even throwing flash-crashes( flash-bang grenades that gives off intense light. They don't injure you though.) They split up. They did PT hard, they swam, took boats out, etc. They just had to keep moving at all times. Chris ended up finding out that if you too things meal-by-meal it makes everything a lot easier. Go hard until you get fed then continue to go hard until you get fed again. His motivation was wanting to prove everyone wrong. Everyone that thought he couldn't do it, show them he could. And he did just that. To him he says, Hell Week was a cakewalk.
Dip Story
He will tell anyone, he loves to dip. Copenhagen is his dip of choice. Reason being, when he was younger and his dad caught him with dip. He made him eat a hole can of wintergreen mint-flavored tobacco. He still doesn't use wintergreen toothpaste. You aren't aloud to have tobacco as a candidate in BUD/S. He figured though since he was in roll back that he could have it. One day, he put some dip in his mouth and moved into formation to run, he thought he was deep enough in the pack that no one would notice. Just his luck, an instructor stopped him and began to talk to him. He soon realized he had dip in his mouth and told him to get it out and drop in a push-up position. Every time he came down from a push-up he had to take a big bite of Copenhagen and swallow it. After almost puking, the instructor let him go.
